A man, Wenchuan Earthquake survival donated his cornea to Chengdu Kang Qiao Aier Eye Bank. This precious cornea was delivered to Guiyang to help a fourteen years old girl called Shiqing.
Due to the reason of complicated eye condition and high expense, Shiqing hasn’t been get effective treatment. As Eye Care Foundation knew about her situation, Eye Care Foundation and Aier Eye Group engaged in public welfare to help Shiqing with her eyes. Shiqing was diagnosed right eye with leukoma of cornea and amblyopia (weak sight); left eye with corneal staphyloma and secondary glaucoma. Considering the complexity of eye disease, Guiyang Aier, Aier cornea team, Beijing Aier , Changsha Aier and CCTV have formed online consultation to identify treatment plans for Shiqing.
During the conference, Beijing Aier Intech Eye Hospital president Li, Shaowei gave two important advices, which were addition of measuring the axis coculi to avoid the risk of the surgery, recommendation of operating the right eye cornea transplantation and cataract extraction at the same time. If vision after surgery is improved with no complications, she is able to do the lens implantation later on.
This operation is about the continuation of love, the surgery was live broadcasted online at 8:40pm 24th March 2017 by CCTV Net, and Tencent.
This surgery was operated in a sterile environment. It took two hours from 8:30am to 10:34. During the surgery, professional Li, Shaowei carefully checked the donor cornea, surgical equipment and the data. Professor Li, Shaowei utilized his eye medical skills to peel off the white spot carefully, and then he sutured healthy donor cornea evenly. Although, it was a difficult surgery, the doctor still found a solution to solve the problems. For example, the surgery was hard to perform because Shiqing’s eye with young age was very soft. So, the doctor made a special treatment, which made a ring to immobilize the eye. This eye surgery constantly strived for excellence!
